Building an Innovative Statewide Program

GEM puts girls at the forefront as leaders in the MOVEment to get all Georgia middle school girls healthy and active. As GEM Ambassadors, girls build social connections, support one another in achieving their goals, and become change-agents in their own communities. Using our unique programming, GEM groups at each selected site work together to create physical activity and wellness programs while developing leadership skills, practicing healthy habits, and improving mental health resilience.

GEM will provide leadership training to approximately 7,000 girls at over 100 Georgia sites in 2022 – 2023, who will develop new physical activity and leadership opportunities for their peers – reaching a total of approximately 18,000 girls statewide.

GEM programming is being implemented at 100+ sites across Georgia. In the 2021-2022 program year, implementation sites included 47 schools, 33 Boys and Girls Clubs and 43 Girl Scout Troops.

GEM Ambassadors

As a girl-led initiative, GEM puts girls in the driver’s seat of all aspects of the program. At each program site, a group of 20-30 girls participate as GEM Ambassadors and take on specific roles and responsibilities within their group.

GEM groups provide a sense of connection and community where girls feel they are heard and valued.

Through strong partnerships and unique programming, GEM is empowering girls to create physical activity programs, improve fitness levels, promote long term health, and enhance their emotional well-being. Your support today will help us continue to deliver innovative youth-led programming to girls across Georgia.
